Dear Black Youth: Proclaim You Greatness
Never wait for society’s affirmation. Affirm your greatness.
Sounds like a cliché, but believe in you. Be resolute. In the midst of adversity, be fearless.
Be naive and tough-minded, your failures should resolve you further on your ambitions.
Rise above a township which was previously designed to limit you,
To instill a false truth that you amount to nothing
Our surroundings are ruled by social-ills,
Unemployment, desperation, exploitation are the face of our townships
False prophets with the promise of a better future are the order of the day
Thus a constant reminder of how limited and tough it takes to win.
Albeit your challenges are man-made, but they can be overcome
Fight back. Be stubborn. Be resolute. Be fearless.
Black youth you owe it to yourself to be great.
To be ruthless in pursuit of your dreams, to fight and win for what you desire for.
Your mission should be to dismantle whatever obstacles which seeks to hinder your progress
Our disfranchised communities are nothing, but hurdles which test our determination.
But to conquer, to win, and succeed requires you to be bold.
To dare you, to bet on yourself, more often that’s what it takes.
The challenge is that we fear to be great, to fulfil that of which we are ordained to become
Fellow black you;
We are products of families whose sole purpose was just to survive,
To see yet another day, with meagre wages our parents received, and that we did
Some of us rise from broken families, households headed by single mothers
These are hardships we endure,
Unfortunately, these are some of the challenges that moulds our undying spirit
Atrocities which propel us to revolt against our daily struggles,
But my fellow black youth,
Despite such mammoth odds,
We have and we will survive
You know why?
Because you and I are poised for greatness!
Believe that.
